The Process

With the paintings in the “Cubes of Chaos” & “Fragments of Sound” series, I have taken a very abstract approach to classic psychedelic art. The paintings are worked with very rough brushstrokes and my focus was on creating as much texture as possible in a very small space. These paintings live from their vibrant colors, the spontaneous application of paint and the depth of the details that emerged from the chaos of fluid paint.

 

This technique is made possible by a special high-tech paper that allows the paint to dry in very high resolution. I painted sheets in 40 by 50 format and then cut them up and rearranged some of them. The paper was then mounted on 16 mm black MDF, ready to be hung on the wall.

 

There are 66 more of these small miniature paintings from this series that are part of my limited edition box set Greatest Hits – Collector’s Edition. Each box contains one of these originals.
